sedation
What is Sedation?
If you feel nervous about visiting the dentist, you’re not alone and that’s exactly why we offer dental sedation at our York practices. Sedation is designed to help anxious patients feel calm and comfortable while receiving treatment.
It’s ideal not only for those who have a fear of dental treatment, but also for people who find it difficult to have dental work carried out under normal circumstances for example, due to a strong gag reflex, sensitive teeth, or certain medical conditions.
Sedation allows you to relax while we take care of your smile, ensuring your visit is as stress-free as possible.
Why choose Thorpe Dental Group for Sedation in York?
At Thorpe Dental Group, we’re proud to offer both Intravenous (IV) sedation and Inhalation sedation to help make your dental experience more comfortable. These options are available to our existing patients, those who self-refer and also referrals from other dental practices.
Our caring and experienced team will talk you through every step, making sure you feel safe, relaxed and fully informed before and during your treatment.
Intravenous Sedation
Intravenous sedation is when drugs are used to make you feel less anxious and more relaxed. The sedative is given by injection into a vein (intravenous) in the arm or back of the hand. Patients are still awake and will be able to communicate verbally with us.
Inhalation Sedation
Inhalation sedation is a light form of sedation. It is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen breathed though a nosepiece. This helps the patient to feel relaxed and accept treatment. Inhalation sedation is also known as ‘happy air’. Inhalation sedation is NOT general anaesthetic.
Inhalation sedation has no health risks for patients. This is an extremely safe technique that reduces the sensation of pain and anxiety and creates a semi-hypnotic state for patients to make them feel happy and comfortable.
Cost
An Assessment Appointment is required before all sedation treatments. You can compare the prices for both Inhalation and Intravenous sedation on our Fees page.
