For children and young people aged 0 to 17, Dr Jessica Talbot, our specialist in paediatric dentistry, provides dedicated dental care.

Family dental care at our Woodthorpe dental practice

How often you come back for a routine dental check depends on the health of your teeth and gums, and at Woodthorpe Dental Centre we recommend the interval that fits you. According to the NHS, the time between dental checks can vary from 3 months to 2 years, and for under 18s it is no more than a year.

Regular visits help us spot problems early, when they are usually easier to treat. Because we see adults and children at the same practice, your family can keep coming to us for routine care, from your child’s first dental appointment through the years that follow.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC), which oversees the quality and safety of health and social care services in England, examined our approach to accessibility when it assessed Woodthorpe Dental Centre. Its report, published in September 2026, found we met the regulations in all five areas it looks at, with patients saying they were given clear information about their treatment and any associated costs.

Specialist dental care for children at Woodthorpe

At Woodthorpe Dental Centre, Dr Jessica Talbot, our specialist in paediatric dentistry, provides care for children and young people aged 0 to 17. She has completed additional specialist training to care for children with dental needs that may be difficult to manage in a routine dental setting.

Dr Talbot sees children who feel anxious about visiting the dentist, as well as neurodivergent children and those with more complex dental or medical needs.

To help children who may find verbal communication difficult, she is trained in Makaton, which uses signs and symbols alongside speech to support understanding and communication. She also has training in inhalation sedation, which may help some children feel more comfortable during dental treatment.

Parents and carers can contact our Woodthorpe team directly, as Dr Talbot welcomes referrals from parents as well as from other clinicians. You can find out more on our paediatric dentistry page.
