sedation

What is sedation?

Sedation is a treatment offered to help patients who are anxious about receiving dental treatment, sedation is used to help patients to relax whilst treatment is completed. Sedation is an ideal not only for those with a fear of dentistry, but also for individuals with certain conditions which makes it difficult for them to be treated under normal conditions.

Why choose us for sedation?

At Thorpe Dental Group, we are now able to offer both Intravenous and Inhalation sedation, for not only our existing patients, but for patients who self-refer and also referrals from other dental practices.

Intravenous Sedation

Intravenous sedation is when drugs are used to make you feel less anxious and more relaxed. The sedative is given by injection into a vein (intravenous) in the arm or back of the hand. Patients are still awake and will be able to communicate verbally with us.

Inhalation Sedation

Inhalation sedation is a light form of sedation. It is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen breathed though a nosepiece. This helps the patient to feel relaxed and accept treatment. Inhalation sedation is also known as ‘happy air’. Inhalation sedation is NOT general anaesthetic.

Inhalation sedation has no health risks for patients. This is an extremely safe technique that reduces the sensation of pain and anxiety and creates a semi-hypnotic state for patients to make them feel happy and comfortable.

Cost

An Assessment Appointment is required before all sedation treatments. You can compare the prices for both Inhalation and Intravenous sedation on our Fees page.
